WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s a small garden that dreamed big, and knock out roses were a good start. Garden owner Allan Donald’s backyard haven on 201 Cavalier Drive, one of the stop’s on this weekend’s Azalea Garden Tour, is home to maple trees, soft-touch hollies, camellias and evergreens.

The garden blooms less than 50 feet beyond the road, but also includes several water fountains that mask the sounds of moving cars.

“It sounds bigger than it is, which is awesome,” Donald said. “The little water feature is soothing to me. I love water. I live on the coast. Water is my favorite thing.”

The garden sits beside a brick patio. That’s where a variety of birds often stop by and say hello.

The Cape Fear Garden Club’s Azalea Garden Tour runs Friday through Sunday around Wilmington.
