WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — 933 John Orchard Lane is home to a garden a decade in the making. It’s decorated with dozens of tulips, nearly 100 azaleas and garden art that all weave around a winding concrete path. And it’s part of this weekend’s Azalea Garden Tour.

Garden owner Ruth Hogan says she sees herself in the garden. It is eclectic, serene and has a lot of personality. You’ll find fairy gardens there, too.

“They all have a destination,” Hogan said. “Every path goes somewhere, and you see something. Some of them terminate, and that’s the spot where you’re supposed to look at something.”

The trail stops at several unusual plants throughout the journey. Pineapple guavas grow there and even a Lady Banks’ rose. Hogan and her assistant are even adding a couple more fairy gardens before festival.

The Cape Fear Garden Club’s Azalea Garden Tour runs Friday through Sunday around Wilmington.
