Azalea Festival goes to Raleigh

The Azalea Festival went to Raleigh today. Committee members and Azalea Belles met Gov. Bev Perdue at the Governors Mansion.

They personally invited her to attend the festival. They also presented the governor with a print of this year’s Azalea Festival artwork.

Perdue says it’s great to see everyone enjoying the season.

“This is what it’s all about: beautiful women, beautiful flowers, beautiful community and a fabulous state,” Perdue said.

For some it’s a sure sign of spring.

“It makes me feel kind of like spring is finally here and we can see azaleas blooming soon,” Azalea Belle Kate Coble said, “and just a kind of completely different feeling from winter.”

Gov. Perdue says the festival is not just about fun and flowers. It’s also a big economic boost for the area.
