Azalea Festival Parade will begin with special flyover

U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre announced today that he has requested and secured permission from the Pentagon for a flyover to honor NC’s military families at the beginning of Saturday’s Azalea Festival Parade.

Congressman McIntyre announced that four Osprey Marine aircraft from New River Air Station at Camp Lejeune will fly over downtown Wilmington at 9:00 a.m. at the start of the parade during the singing of the National Anthem.

McIntyre said the special flyover honors those who have put their lives on the line to secure our freedoms and honors their families who have sacrificed so much for our nation’s security.

McIntyre is a senior member of the Armed Services Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and was asked by Frances Lamb of the Azalea Festival Committee to obtain the flyover.

The aircraft are part of the 2nd Marine Air Wing of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force.
