Bald Head Island’s Director of Public Safety resigns

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – The Village of Bald Head Island is looking for someone new to helm the Department of Public Safety.

In an email to WWAY, Village Manager Chris McCall says he “reluctantly accepted the letter of resignation submitted by Public Safety Director Caroline Mitchell, Ph. D., effective August 1st, 2016. Director Mitchell had been instrumental in leading the Department in its on-going efforts to implement the public safety concept, with all officers trained in law enforcement, fire, and emergency services. She had been with the Village since February 2013. The Village thanks Director Mitchell for her service and wishes her the best in her future endeavors. ”

Major Carl Pearson, who has been serving as the Interim Operations Supervisor with the Public Safety Department, will take the lead as Interim Director, until a new Director is hired.

Major Pearson has a background in law enforcement. McCall says he worked in numerous jurisdictions for nearly 40 years. The Village will look to immediately begin the search for a “top-flight candidate” to fill the Director position.
