Bald Head Island residents vote to help re-nourishment effort

Bald Head Island residents seem to agree that beach re-nourishment is worth paying for. In a special election Tuesday, island residents voted to raise taxes to pay for an approximately $17 million re-nourishment effort.

The added revenue will pay off $10 million in bonds. The town has $2 million in its beach fund.

It is hoped the state will pick up the remaining $5 million needed for the project.
