WILMINGTON, NC (STARNEWSONLINE.COM) — New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger is back on the offensive challenging a recently passed travel policy after his request to use county funds to attend an upcoming conference was denied.
Berger, in an email Friday, objected to being told he couldn’t attend the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners Annual Conference Aug. 16-19. His request was denied because Berger is in violation of the county’s new travel policy because he owes the county $547.09 for unused hotel rooms and conference fees. As of Tuesday, the balance was not paid, according to county staff. Sheila Schult, clerk of the board, said none of the other commissioners have outstanding debts.
