SHE ROCKS co-founder Beth Quinn dies from ovarian cancer
WILMINGTON, NC (Star News) — Beth Quinn, a Wilmington civic leader who co-founded the She ROCKS ovarian cancer foundation and served as its president, died Wednesday after a long battle with the disease.
The She ROCKS homepage carries a quote from Quinn: “I am in charge of today, and I choose hope. Each day I wake up with gratitude.”
Born March 6, 1958, Quinn was retired from First Citizens Bank and had been married to former Wilmington City Council member Jim Quinn since 1995.
In 2013, after gall bladder surgery, Quinn learned that she had stage IV ovarian cancer. With friends Mary Barto and Tracy Brown, she founded She ROCKS in May 2014 as a non-profit foundation to promote awareness of ovarian cancer, to fund research and to provide support to patients. Within two years, the foundation had raised more than $550,000.
