Big Buddies give out 300 book bags with supplies to little buddies

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As kids prepare to head back to school next week, a book bag is one of those essential items many put on their shopping list.

Many kids in the cape fear do not have access to the school supplies they need. That is why the Big Buddy Program is trying to help.

President of the Young Professionals for the Big Buddy Program Valarie Reed-Kobolski said little things like a book bag, notebooks and pencils are things that every child needs to be successful in school. That is why the big buddy program is making sure all 300 of their little buddies have them.

“It’s just really important for the communities to chip in where parents can’t necessarily get their kids the supplies that they need as schools request for the parents to get more and more supplies for their kids individually,” Reed-Kobolski said.

Several organizations in Wilmington donated items to help fill the bags. Reed-Kobolski said they are always in need of more big buddies to get involved with the little buddies in their program.
