Big productions making impact on Cape Fear
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — “Iron Man 3” and other productions have breathed new life into Wilmywood and the film industry here.
Call it the “Iron Man Effect,” and we’re not talking about Tony Stark. Instead, the economy in the area is flourishing thanks to multiple productions here in Hollywood East.
A picture is worth a thousand words, And a celebrity sighting is worth a thousand pictures. When you add them together, that equals one happy economy.
“Everyone is benefiting from the film industry here in Wilmington,” said Ducky Garner with L&L Tent Rentals.
L&L provides all of the tents and tables for multiple projects, including “Iron Man 3.” Garner says since the Marvel movie came to down, the company’s business has been non-stop.
“Just think about the trickle down effect we’re having,” Garner said. “We’ve had to increase our employment here at L&L because of not just ‘iron Man 3,’ but because of all the movie production. I think this is going to be a record year for us.”
Other productions like “Safe Haven,” “Mary and Martha” and “Somebody’s Child” have set up shop in the Cape Fear, bringing actors names like Hilary Swank, James Woods, Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough to the area.
The actors are settling in to the area, too, shopping at stores like Edge of Urge and the Gentlemen’s Corner. Some are even picking up tricks of the trade from locals.
“Iron Man 3” star Gwyneth Paltrow took cooking lessons from Catch’s chef Keith Rhodes. He says it was the experience of a lifetime.
Overall, it seems that businesses around the area look good under the spotlight.
NBC’s new show “Revolution” will start filming in Wilmington next week bringing even more jobs and money to the area.
