Big Greek Weekend

You wouldn’t know Greek Fest was winding down today by the crowds of people who decided to stop by. “We started small and now we got big.” Mike poulos has been a member of Saint Nicholas Greek Church for over sixty years, and has been helping out at Greek fest for sixteen years. He says its gets better every year. “The weather’s been nice, the people have been nice, they learn what good food we have.”

Eating was certainly the theme of the festival, even Mayor Saffo was on board.

“Whether you are the Mayor, the Governor or the President, if you are a member of this community you have to go to work.” His work was handing out his favorite Greek treats. “They are called Loukamades, and they are honey balls.” While he was busy convincing passerbys to try the fried dough treats, some were inside packing up the last of the greek pastries.

“We usually have about twenty thousand pieces of pastry that we sell all weekend long.” Volunteers say they sold about four-thousand spanikopita and six-thousand Greek salads.
and it was no easy work preparing all the food. “We have all be pulling twelve hour shifts.”

There is still time, the festival ends tonight at eight, but some told me if there is still food left they will stay until its all gone!
