Biloxi volunteers paying it forward

A group of Biloxi Mississippi volunteers are in Wilmington paying it forward.

They are rebuilding two homes in New Hanover County to help the community that helped them rebuild theirs after Hurricane Katrina.

One house is off of Carolina Beach Road.

Volunteers from faith based groups are re-vamping this home from its foundation to the roof. It belongs to an elderly woman.

Workers say it feels good to give back to a community that helped Biloxi residents in their time of need.

Biloxi team leader Ray Marshall said, “Oh we’re doing disaster recovery in reverse. We had all these volunteers to come to Biloxi. Over 500 from North Carolina, Wilmington area over the last say, two and a half years. And we’re just now getting to the stage where we are recovered enough to start reciprocal agreements so this is repayment.”

Volunteers will be working until Friday.

They are also helping fix a home off of Gordon Road.
