Colton Emswiler joined WWAY in March 2025. He is responsible for leading sports coverage in and around the Cape Fear region.
Prior to his move to the Tar Heel State, Colton was a part of the sports team at WXOW in La Crosse, Wisconsin. During that time, he covered high school, college, and professional sports in the Upper Midwest. Some of his favorite stories include the surprise visit of an ill father at his daughter’s basketball game, as well as being able to cover the NFL in person on multiple occasions.
He comes from the small town of Charter Oak, Iowa (population 500). His passion for sports media and storytelling stems from the fact that news never reached his area growing up. Colton’s goal is to ensure area athletes receive the attention they deserve, having seen several individuals not receive recognition for their achievements.
In the year before starting at WWAY, Colton went on a travel binge. He visited Hawaii, Kenya, Japan, and multiple European countries during that time. His goal is to see every continent. Four down, three to go. His favorite teams include the Chicago Blackhawks, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Royals, and Iowa Hawkeyes. But the one thing he loves more than all of them is his overly affectionate rescue hound named Grimm. We would show you a picture of his pup, but he would probably try to jump through your screen and hug you if we did.
