Kinsey Rothenberger joined WWAY in August 2025 as a multimedia journalist. Some of the stories she is most proud of covering include a package on local students commemorating 9/11 and a feature story on K-9s in schools. This is her first full-time position in the field, but she previously interned at WWAY during her senior year at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she earned a degree in communications with a minor in journalism.
While in school, Kinsey was active in community service through her sorority. She especially enjoyed working with Girl Scouts and volunteering at Happy & Sunshine’s Pig Sanctuary and Rescue.
Outside of the newsroom, her hobbies include reading, anything involving animals, shopping, music, and taking her dog on adventures. Movies have always played a big role in her life, influenced by a father who is a self-described movie fanatic. Her favorite films include Pitch Perfect, Dirty Dancing, and All the Bright Places.
She is also an avid reader. Her favorite book series is Maximum Ride, and one of her favorite standalone novels is Verity by Colleen Hoover.
Kinsey is an only child with a small family and grew up surrounded by pets. She has an almost three-year-old yellow lab mix named Maggie.
