Black Friday crowds good news for Independence Mall
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Long lines formed before sunrise at Independence Mall in Wilmington as Black Friday shoppers begin their hunt for holiday bargains.
There was an estimated 300 people in line when Belk opened at 6 a.m., and the mood was jovial and exciting.
For General Manager Helen Lewis the strong crowds on Thanksgiving night and Black Friday morning point to a strong season.
“We are extremely excited,” Lewis said. “It’s going to be an exciting holiday season.”
Lewis also points to statistics that predict shopping centers will see sales increases over 3 percent this year.
Shoppers, however, are more interested in the bargains and having a good time.
One group of high school students describe the day as fun shopping for others, but they might just also find something to buy for themselves.
