Black Friday dampened by Thanksgiving openings

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — With retailers open on Thanksgiving day, the black Friday rush we are all used to seeing, didn’t happen in Wilmington.

At Independence Mall, which opened at 6:00 PM on Thanksgiving, people mulled about doing their shopping without much of the enthusiasm you might normally have expected.

Some missed the excitement while others felt it was a more relaxing way to shop.

“You get to shop you still get the deals and you don’t have to run into the rush and the lines,” said Debra Padgett, who was finishing her Christmas shopping today.

Black Friday may no longer be the busiest shopping day of the year either. Experts say the Saturday before Christmas may overtake Black Friday in 2014.
