Black History Month art contest chooses winners
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An art contest at the Brigade Boys and Girls Club in Wilmington has its winners.
The first and second place winners were chosen Tuesday night. The goal was to draw an important moment in Black History.
U.S Cellular sponsored the competition. The winner chose to draw Rosa Parks for a very specific reason. Folks with the phone company said events like this matter.
“She’s one of the African-Americans that impacted African-American lives today,” said Leah Harris, a contest winner.
“To be honest, we also wanted to see the creativity from the students and have some fun with our customers as well enjoying the rich history of African-American influencers,” said Jeremy Taylor with U.S. Cellular.
Harris took home $500 as a prize. She said she plans to go shopping with that money.
