Bladen County man arrested for violent attack


ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) — An Elizabethtown man has been arrested for attempted murder. Sheriff James McVicker said they arrested Maleke Tyeri King, 21, Tuesday afternoon. McVicker said King was the suspect in an attempted murder that happened in the Tar Heel area on Saturday night.

Investigators said King argued with a man who is related to the mother of his child. They said he then beat the man with his fists and a handgun, hitting him several times in the head. According to the victim and witnesses King pointed the gun at the victim and pulled the trigger several times but the gun didn’t fire. Then King left.

King was arrested and charged with attempted murder, first degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and second degree kidnapping. He was placed under no bond on the attempted murder charge.

The victim was taken to the hospital, and he was treated and then released.

This is the third violent crime in recent weeks.

Last week in Elizabethtown Bruce Parker, 44, was arrested for beating a man he lived with to death.

And another Bladen County man, Marquail Burney, 20, is behind bars, accused of killing his father’s fiancé.
