Bladen County man continues fight over toxic Camp Lejeune water
WASHINGTON, DC (WWAY) — A Bladen County man continued his fight Tuesday over toxic tap water at Camp Lejeune.
Retired Marine Jerry Ensminger testified before the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee in support of “The Janey Ensminger Act of 2016.”
It’s named in honor of his daughter who died from Leukemia after being exposed to the toxic water.
The legislation requires the VA to provide medical care for diseases that can be linked to the toxic chemicals on base.
“Not only is this legislation a step in rectifying the gross injustice committed against the Camp Lejeune victims, it also has the potential to save the american taxpayers hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in the future,” Ensminger said.
The legislation also requires that a federal agency review all relevant scientific literature every three years to determine if links have been found between toxic exposure at Camp Lejeune and additional diseases and conditions.
