Blanket and coat drive held at MLK center in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The weather outside is definitely chilly and a jacket is needed. Kevin Spears and a group of his friends came to together at the MLK center to pass some warmth on to others who need it.

More than 50 jackets were collected and were laid out for people to take Saturday.

Spears said he noticed more and more people without jackets. He said he even asked some what they needed the most and they told him jackets, socks, and blankets, so he knew it was important to get involved.

“We got the community to help the community, Spears said. “That’s what I do. I asked my friends to help me help them.”

Spears said there were able to collect and distribute kids, mens, and women coats during the day.

He says it was absolutely free for them and people we able to come by and pick out as many as they needed.
