Blown transformer causes widespread outages in New Hanover Co.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Dispatchers said a blown transformer is causing widespread outages in New Hanover County Tuesday evening.
New Hanover County Dispatch said the transformer blew at a sub-station in the 4400 block of Carolina Beach Road.
They said lots of traffic lights are out around the county, and warn drivers to treat intersections as a 3-way stop if you get to a light that’s out.
According to Duke Energy’s outage map, more than 1,500 customers in the area are without power.
On the map, Duke said the problem should be fixed by about 8:30 p.m.
