Board denies proposed apartment complex, rezoning in Porters Neck
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Commissioners voted unanimously to deny rezoning an area of Porters Neck to build a 276-unit apartment complex at 8704 Market Street.
The request was my by Bill Schoettelkotte on behalf of Ridgewood Health Investors, LLC to rezone the area to be an Exceptional Design Zoning District, or EDZD.
Those against the proposal showed up wearing white shirts, so many that extra seats were placed outside the room and several people lined the walls.
“We like things the way they are, but people have to live somewhere but not there because we don’t have the schools and we don’t have the traffic,” says Jim Otley, who lives in the Porters Neck area.
The proposed complex would have included six apartment buildings and eight town home structures.
