Boat driver charged for March boat crash that killed three

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County man has been charged for a deadly boat crash on the Waccamaw river that took three lives.

North Carolina Wildlife says 33-year-old Matthew Edward Ferster has been served with three counts of second degree murder.

Ferster was driving one of the boats involved in the crash that happened March 29th on the Waccamaw River near Pireway. Three passengers on another, 21-year-old Garrett Smith and two others, Jennifer Hayes and Megan Lynn were killed.

Ferster and his passenger were not injured. The driver of the other boat, Travis Suggs, was charged with operating a boat while impaired following the crash.
