Boaters get new access to water
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Just in time for spring and summer New Hanover County boaters have a new place to float their boats. The Trails End Park and Boating Access Area officially opened today.
Not only can people have a nice picnic, boat owners, kayak and canoe users, plus jet skies will be able to launch near Masonboro Island and the Intracoastal Waterway.
The park is located on Whiskey Creek off Masonboro Loop Road on the site of the former Trail’s End Restaurant.
“We did a total renovation of this park,” said Jim McDaniel, New Hanover Co. Director of Parks, Gardens and Senior Resource Center. “It’s been a project in the works for several years working with the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission. The state helped us with construction, and the county purchased the land. We put three properties together to make this a wonderful park.”
$4 million came from the 2006 parks bond money to buy the land. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission paid for the other renovations.
