Tubing teen hits head on submerged dock at Ocean Isle Beach
OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A boating accident sent one teen to the hospital with head injuries after wildlife officers say the tube she was riding on hit a submerged dock at Ocean Isle Beach Tuesday.
An NC Wildlife Resources Commission spokesman says the incident happened around 3 p.m. about a half-mile west of the Ocean Isle Bridge. The spokesman says two teens were on the tube being pulled by a boat when the driver turned the wheel in the opposite direction.
That’s when officers say the tube hit an old dock or pier that was submerged under water, causing both teens to be slug off of the tube. The spokesman says one of the teens hit her head on the dock, causing a fracture.
The teen was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where officers say she is doing OK during recovery. The spokesman says no one faces charges at this time, but that the investigation is on-going.
