Bob Hanna officially named West Brunswick football coach

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Bob Hanna has officially been named head football coach at West Brunswick High School.

Hanna has 43 years of coaching experience, including the last 20 as head coach and athletic director at Irmo High School in suburban Columbia, SC. During his time at Irmo, he led his team to three state championship game experiences.

“I am very thankful to have the opportunity to continue with something that has been such a big part of my life since I was 12 years old,” Hanna said in a news release. “I love football, and I am excited to be coaching the young men at West Brunswick.”

Hanna, a Pennsylvania native, has football roots in North Carolina, where he coached before moving to Irmo. Hanna has a three-year starter at linebacker at UNC, where he was also a team captain.

“I have known Coach Hanna for many years, and I have even recruited his school at the college level,” WBHS Athletic Director Jimmy Fletcher said in a statement. “What impresses me most is the way he motivates young people. I’m excited about the future of the West Brunswick High Football program.”

As a head coach, Hanna has compiled a record of 257-169-2. He was 163-93 at Irmo.
