Body found in Columbus Co. identified as woman reported missing last week
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Investigators in Columbus County say a body found over the weekend has been identified as a woman reported missing last week.
Felicia Moore Porter was reported missing Friday. She was last seen around Fowler’s Supermarket in Tabor City at 6:30 a.m.
Saturday, Columbus County deputies found a woman’s body in wood’s near Porter’s Tabor City home around 2:30 p.m., investigators say. An autopsy yesterday confirmed the body was Porter.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says that based on the results of the autopsy, Porter’s death is being treated as a criminal investigation with the held of the State Bureau of Investigation.
“Ensuring the safety and security of Columbus County is our mission,” Sheriff Lewis Hatcher said in a statement. “I encourage the Tabor City community to carry on with their normal activities. There is no reason to fear for your safety.”
Because the investigation continues, the sheriff’s office says no specific details will be released about the cause of death.
