Body found in Wilmington pond

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating a body found in a pond off Cinema Drive.

According to spokesperson with the department, Wilmington Fire Department Station 3 placed a call into dispatch just before 6pm on Thursday that they had found a body in a pond behind the station.

Police have identified the body found as 30-year-old Christopher Thomas Smith of Wilmington.

Investigators say there are no obvious signs of foul play on Smith’s body, but the exact cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.
