‘Bolden’ finally sets release date


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A movie that started shooting in Wilmington more than a decade ago will finally hit theaters this spring.

“Bolden” will be released May 3, according to its website.

The movie, which first shot in Wilmington in 2007, profiles jazz pioneer Buddy Bolden. The cast and crew returned to the Port City for reshoots in 2010. At that time, the movie was scheduled to be released in 2011. In shot around the area other times over the next few years.

Set pieces from the movie were auctioned off in Wilmington in 2015.

Producers also released a trailer for the film (see video above), which features music by jazz legend Wynton Marsalis.
