Bolton man faces $550K bond after alleged armed break-in and kidnapping in Columbus County
BOLTON, NC (WWAY) — A Bolton man is facing additional charges after investigators say he broke into a residence, threatened two people with a handgun and held them at gunpoint.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said 59-year-old Sheldon Patrick was arrested Aug. 19 after deputies responded to a residence on Jacobs Lane in Bolton following a report of an armed breaking and entering, kidnapping and theft.
When detectives arrived, they found Patrick and two people who were identified as victims inside the home.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators obtained statements alleging Patrick entered the residence without permission, displayed a handgun, threatened the victims, fired the weapon inside the home and held both victims at gunpoint.
Detectives recovered a SCCY 9mm handgun at the scene that they believe was used during the alleged incident.
Investigators also said Patrick is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm. A search warrant was later executed at Patrick’s residence, where detectives reported finding suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and other evidence connected to the investigation.
Patrick faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
- Discharging a Firearm into an Enclosure to Incite Fear
- Felony Breaking and/or Entering
- Two counts of Felony Breaking and/or Entering to Terrorize or Injure
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
- Two counts of First-Degree Kidnapping
- Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Methamphetamine
- Maintaining a Vehicle, Dwelling or Place for a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Patrick was given a $550,000 secured bond and was booked into the Columbus County Detention Center, according to the sheriff’s office.
The updated bond is higher than the amounts previously listed in court records following his initial arrest. Court records previously showed a $500,000 secured bond connected to the firearm-related charge and a separate $25,000 secured bond on drug and firearm charges.
The sheriff’s office thanked the detectives and personnel involved in the investigation.
