Bolton man faces kidnapping, assault charges after alleged home break-in

BOLTON, NC (WWAY) — A 59-year-old Bolton man is facing multiple felony charges, including first-degree kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, following an alleged break-in at a Columbus County home.
According to Columbus County court records, Sheldon Glen Patrick, was arrested around 1:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.
Patrick is accused of breaking into a residence in Bolton with the intent to commit a felony or larceny and with the intent to terrorize two occupants.
According to charging documents, Patrick allegedly assaulted one of the occupants with a 9mm handgun with the intent to kill.
He is also accused of unlawfully confining two people and kidnapping them for the purpose of terrorizing them.
Patrick faces the following charges related to the alleged incident:
- Discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling with intent to incite fear
- Felony breaking and entering
- Two counts of breaking and entering to terrorize or injure
- Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
- Two counts of first-degree kidnapping
Court records show Patrick also faces separate drug and firearm charges.
Authorities allege Patrick possessed 1.73 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver. He is also charged with maintaining a dwelling used to keep and sell methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Patrick is additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. Court documents say he allegedly possessed a 9mm handgun and had a prior felony breaking-and-entering conviction in Brunswick County.
Patrick’s bond was set at $25,000 secured on the drug and firearm charges and $500,000 secured on the charge of discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling with intent to incite fear. The remaining charges were listed as included in those bonds.
Patrick remains listed as awaiting trial.
