Bomb threats lead to serious consequences

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — This past week two bomb threats have been made at area high schools, one at New Hanover High and the other at West Brunswick. But what are the consequences for these crimes?

According to state law a bomb threat, whether called in by phone or done electronically, is a class H felony. If someone has another charge in less than five years, that is increased to a class G.

If convicted a student could lose their license or permit and be suspended for 365 days. But that’s not all, the student’s parents can be held responsible as well in certain situations and could face fines of up to $25,000 for damages to the school.
