Bowens appointed to elections director

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — The State Board of Elections approved the nomination for the former elections supervisor at the New Hanover County Board of Elections to be its elections director.

In a letter sent today by Kim Strach, the executive director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections, Derek Bowens’ approval is effective immediately.

The appointment of Bowens comes after the termination of former elections director Marvin McFadyen. Bowens was appointed as interim director about a month ago. Some board members say Bowens lacks the experience required for the job.

The New Hanover County Board of Elections will now adopt duties and responsibilities for Bowens, Strach said.
