Boxing academy to get new home

WILMINGTON — A boxing academy geared toward helping troubled young people here in the Port City will soon be getting a new home.

The City of Wilmington granted the 23rd Psalms Boxing Academy $20,000 for renovations.

The academy’s mission is to train and educate local youth. The cramped facility in downtown Wilmington will soon be replaced with a newly renovated space with new equipment.

Tara Duckworth with Parks and Recreation said, “The retrofitting of the building will be funded by the community development block grant, which are federal funds that are administered by the city to retrofit the building and allow them to move in.”

The new facility will be located at the corner of 10th and Fanning Streets in downtown Wilmington.
