Boy bitten by a shark at Holden Beach
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A 10-year-old boy was bitten by a shark in the water at Holden Beach Wednesday afternoon.
The victim’s father says it happened around 3:30 p.m. in 3-4 feet of water in the mid 500 block of Ocean Boulevard West. He reportedly felt something bite his foot in the water, and then made his way to shore, revealing a bite wound to the heel of his foot.
Holden Beach Police, Brunswick County EMS and Tri-Beach Fire Department responded to the scene within minutes, and Brunswick County EMS took the boy to Brunswick Community Hospital.
At 10 p.m., the victim’s father said his son had just left the operating room and was being transferred to a private room, adding that his son was in stable condition and had a long road of recover ahead.
