BREAKING NEWS: Fair’s first night canceled

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The first night of the Cape Fear Fair & Expo has been canceled because of the threat of severe weather.

“Safety is our first priority,” fair manager Skip Watkins said.

The fair was scheduled to open Thursday evening. Instead, the gates will open Friday at 5 p.m.

A line of storms in advance of a cold front has been moving across North Carolina all day long bringing rain to the area this afternoon. This same line produced at least 4 tornadoes in the central and western NC counties Wednesday. The cold front will push offshore Thursday evening, ending the severe threat. Much colder air will filter into the area Friday.

The Cape Fear Fair & Expo runs through November 6.
