Bridge collapse reminds locals of North Carolina event
WINSTON-SALEM (AP) — The families of the missing are worried in Minneapolis after the Interstate bridge collapse, but some families in North Carolina are recalling a bridge collapse 32 years ago.
The Siloam Bridge on the Surry-Yadkin County border fell in 1975 and killed four people, including a baby that fell into the water.
About 16 people were hurt when the bridge over the Yadkin River went down.
The bridge was rebuilt and renamed the Atkinson-Needham Memorial Bridge to honor some victims.
