Bridge update: Isabel Holmes Bridge needs repairs also
Not one, but both bridges connecting New Hanover and Brunswick Counties need to be repaired.
The NC State Department of Transportation says they will have intermittent lane closures on the Isabel Holmes Bridge between June 2 and June 4.
The Isabel Holmes construction will be going on the same time as the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, which gets underway on Tuesday.
DOT officials say they will try not to let lane closures happen on both bridges simultaneously. Still, drivers should anticipate delays.
Lisa Thaden, who commutes from Leland, said, “I’m definitely concerned about my commute. I’m sure I’m going to have to allow a lot of extra time as well as everybody else. I mean, there’s just a lot of traffic that goes through that area.”
DOT engineer Allen Pope said the concrete supports on the Isabel Holmes Bridge have corroded and need to be reinforced.
