Brothers charged after string of car break-ins in Brunswick County
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Two suspects are in custody following a string of vehicle break-ins across southern Brunswick County earlier this month.
Authorities say the break-ins occurred overnight in several neighborhoods, including the Northwest Drive area, Spring Mill Plantation, Meadowlands and Coastal Club.
Investigators identified the suspects as brothers Zachariah Bay and Jacob Bay. Both were taken into custody April 15 in Horry County, South Carolina.
Officials say community tips played a key role in the investigation. Residents shared surveillance video and other information after authorities asked for help on April 10.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Intel Unit assisted in identifying the suspects. Authorities also credited the Horry County Police Department with helping locate and arrest the two men.
Investigators say charges are still being calculated as the investigation continues. So far, 23 warrants have been obtained.
Both suspects are being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in South Carolina.
