Brunswick Co. teacher suspended following VA sex offense charges
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A middle school math teacher has been suspended with pay following felony charges in Virginia.
According to a Brunswick County Schools spokeswoman, Kathleen Capitano, 24, was suspended with pay today after charges were filed on Saturday in Fairfax County, VA.
According to the arrest warrant, Capitano is facing four felony counts of use of communications sytems to facilitate certain offenses involving children. The warrant shows offense dates in early 2015 and in February of this year. According to a release from the Fairfax County Police Department, Capitano went to at hotel in Herndon, VA, to meet up with a 13-year-old boy. Officials said she knew the male from when she was student teaching at an elementary school in Herndon.
Capitano, 24, was hired in August 2015 at Shallotte Middle School.
