Brunswick, Columbus counties declare State of Emergency, voluntary evacuation in Brunswick Co.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, COLUMBUS COUNTY NC (WWAY) — Two southeastern North Carolina counties urging residents to prepare for deteriorating weather conditions until at least Friday.
Brunswick and Columbus counties both declaring States of Emergency as of late Tuesday morning.
The declarations put emergency preparations and plans by both counties into high gear. Emergency management agencies in Brunswick and Columbus counties say residents need to do everything they can to be prepared for heavy rains, flooding and possible tornadoes brought on by Debby. They’re urging everyone to have plenty of supplies on hand and review evacuation plans if needed.
In Brunswick County, the proclamation includes a voluntary evacuation of low-lying and flood-prone areas of the unincorporated area of Brunswick County.
Tropical Storm Debby already bringing heavy rainfall and prompting tornado warnings for both counties.
The slow-moving storm is expected to create widespread flooding for much of the area over the next few days.
