Brunswick County builds 50th Habitat for Humanity home

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity just completed their 50th home! Organizers say this was one of the best yet.
The volunteers with H4H say St. James Plantation residents raised more than $40,000 in a less than 30 days and the developer and the builders’ guild volunteers the other half with cash, materials and labor.
Friday, the homeowner started moving in and says she’s glad her mentor kepts pushing her to apply.
“She kept encouraging me to apply,” said Kelli Rhyne. “and I was like, nooo I don’t think so. But she kept encouraging me and I did it and now I have a brand new home for me and my daughter!”
Construction began in September. Organizers say about 20 St. James volunteers helped build the house including plumbing, wiring, painting, cabinet installation and floors.
