Weekend checkpoint in Brunswick County nets 79 violations


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A checkpoint in Brunswick County over the weekend led to nearly 79 charges for drivers.

The checkpoint was set up on the Causeway between Wilmington and Leland Friday night into Saturday morning.

According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Emily Flax, officers involved in the multi-agency operation, arrested 10 people for DWI and two more on outstanding warrants.

Here’s the full list of violations:

DWI: 10
Driving while license revoked: 14
Seat belt violation: 1
No operators license: 14
Warrants: 2
Carrying a concealed weapon: 1
No insurance: 4
Expired registration: 5
Fictitious tag: 2
Expired inspection: 2
Child restraint violation: 2
Open container: 1
Other traffic violation: 10
Allow unlicensed to drive: 2
Drug charges: 9

The checkpoint included ALE, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, ChildSafe, Governor’s Highway Safety Program, Leland Fire Rescue, Leland Police Department, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Oak Island Police Department, Sunset Beach Police Department, Whiteville Police Department and Wilmington Police Department.
