Gas leak repaired in Brunswick County after U.S. 17 closed for hours

WINNABOW, NC (WWAY) — A gas line in Brunswick County has been repaired, with representatives of Piedmont Natural Gas saying the repair was completed around 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The cause of the leak has not been identified at this time. Piedmont Natural Gas says now that it is repaired, they will investigate the cause, including sending the damaged section for inspection.

The leak shut down both directions of U.S. Highway 17 near Winnabow for several hours Friday, causing major traffic delays as crews worked to repair the damaged line.

According to Brunswick County Sheriff Brian Chism, the leak occurred on Green Hill Road near the Winnabow Fire Station.
