Brunswick County leaders collecting goods for LA flood victims


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – Brunswick County leaders are joining forces to collect things like food and furniture for Louisiana.

Commissioner Pat Sykes, Dr. Jeff Gibby, Roy Joyner and the Churches of the Brunswick Baptist Association are collecting the items for flood victims.

The collection will be from September 6 through September 16.

The main collection site is the Brunswick Baptist Association Resource Center at 1041 Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia.  The hours for this site are September 6 through September 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and September 12 through 15  from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  For more information about site contact the Brunswick Baptist Association at (910) 754-7979.

The second collection site is at Sykes Portable Welding & Repair at 8168 River Road in Southport.  The hours for this site are September 6 through September 16 from 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and on Saturday, September 10 at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  This location will only take small items.

The following items only are accepted:

Canned Food

Hygiene items for men, women, and children

Baby products (diapers, formula)

Cleaning supplies (soap cleaners, disinfectant, broom, mop, sponge, and bucket)

Furniture (in good shape, something you would be proud of)

Appliances (in working order)

Building materials (sheetrock, lumber, etc.)

They are NOT accepting clothing.
