Brunswick County man elected Chairman of North Carolina Republican Party

CHARLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Republican Party elected Brunswick County businessman and former Chairman of the Wake County Republican Party Claude Pope Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party.

According to a press release, Pope said his plan included upgrading party communications and tactical operations, and working with county chairs and other local officials to strengthen their positions in their local communities.

“My political philosophy is pretty straightforward,” said Pope. “I believe in limited government, individual liberty, a focus on family and personal responsibility – core values all Republicans share.”

He also pledged to reach out to new constituencies and to use his business background to provide enhanced management practices.

Governor Pat McCrory and Senator Richard Burr, and Lt. Governor Dan Forest nominated Pope at the convention. Pope was elected with 70% of the votes and 798 raw votes by delegates throughout the state.
