Brunswick County looks for feedback about tobacco use in county parks
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County and Brunswick County Parks and Recreation are looking for the public’s input on the use of tobacco products at county parks. The survey results are meant to help county staff determine if there needs to be regulations put in place.
Lisa Nunale, a Town Creek Park visitor, said she doesn’t like to be around cigarette smoke but that doesn’t mean tobacco use has ruined her time at the park.
“I haven’t really seen a lot of use at the parks. It really hasn’t been an issue for me personally,” said Nunale. “I think it’s great to do a survey and get people out there and find out what’s really going on before they make a decision.”
With that being said Nunale said she wouldn’t mind there being a designated area for smoking.
Deborah Lewis, another Town Creek Park visitor, had similar thoughts about people smoking in the park.
“It doesn’t really bother us even when I’m sitting in the stands watching the games. They’ll kindly walk away, you know off to their self,” said Lewis.
Lewis was walking in the park with her friend and she pointed out several cigarette butts on the ground. She said would like to see something done about butts’ disposal.
Melissa Black, Town Creek Park visitor, said most people are courteous when they choose to light up so she doesn’t think there’s any need for official rules for the parks.
“I think everybody just needs to be responsible. I think if anything just reminding parents to be considerate,” said Black. “You know don’t stand behind the dugouts and behind home plate blowing the cigarette smoke.”
Surveys will be accepted until Sunday May 15. Click here to take the survey.
