Brunswick County Schools to release early Friday as school year ends

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The school year will end a few hours earlier than originally planned in Brunswick County.

Brunswick County Schools will operate on modified early release schedule for students Friday, according to a new release. School district spokeswoman Jessica Swencki says it is important to note the release schedule is in reverse order due to the high school exam schedule.

Noon: ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
1:15 p.m.:  MIDDLE SCHOOLS
1:30 p.m.:  HIGH SCHOOLS

Friday is the last day of the 2016-2017 school year for students.

“We typically operate on early release on the last day, but for the purposes of the calendar we have to hold it as a full day until we know how our high school testing schedule is working out,” Swencki said. “This year they should all be done by 1:30. By reversing the order the younger students can roll out first and then the double runs (for school buses) will be back for the high school students.”

Parents will be notified of the early release schedule through the district’s messaging system this evening, social media, and an alert on the system and school websites.
