Brunswick County teachers prep for new school year
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — It’s almost time for the school year to be in full swing and teachers in Brunswick County were working hard Thursday to get classrooms decorated and ready for the year.
At North Brunswick High School, many teachers were moving into brand new classrooms in the school’s new addition. The county saw an increase in teacher turnover for the past year mainly due to retirements — which means lots of new teachers this year. County teacher of the year Laura Sokol-Scott said she enjoys the first events of the school year because they help students form their school families.
“Even after 11 years, I get excited and the butterflies for the first day of school,” Sokol-Scott said. “I’m looking forward to seeing my students, kind of getting a feel for what they’re looking forward to for the school year and preparing the different lesson plans that go along with the school year.”
The school system is holding kick off celebrations at their high schools this evening to talk about the bond that will be on November’s ballot.
