Warning about wild animals acting strangely in Brunswick Co.
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County dispatch is reporting calls from people seeing wild animals acting strangely.
Authorities ask the public not to go near the animals and to call 911 to have the animal safely removed.
We are the NC Wildlife Resources Commission found over a dozen animals infected with Distemper Virus in areas of the county south of Supply.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, Canine Distemper is highly contagious and a serious disease caused by a virus that attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems of puppies and dogs. It is usually spread by animals coughing or sneezing. The virus also infects wild animals that can infect dogs, such as foxes, wolves, coyotes, raccoons, and skunks.
Animal Control Officers with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services Unit are asking the community to make sure their dogs and puppies are up to date on the Distemper Virus vaccine.
